Louise's musical journey began with the recorder, but everything changed around the age of 10 when she picked up the flute. The real turning point came when she heard Baker Street on the radio - she knew instantly that the saxophone was her true calling. At 15, she was playing in the Highbury Area Youth Wind Band and the Portsmouth Youth Jazz Orchestra, where she met Pete Effamy, the teacher who would shape her playing for years to come.
She quickly discovered her passion for the baritone sax and earned a spot in the Hampshire Youth Jazz Orchestra. By 20, she was performing with the jump jive band Big Al and the Fireflys and was later invited to join Mike Sanchez’s band, even sharing the stage with Robert Plant at Kidderminster Town Hall.
Today, Louise leads The Maury Deans Big Band, where she brings together top professional musicians and passionate amateurs to prove that great music comes from a love of playing. By day, she works as an osteopath and a shaman, blending healing arts with her love for music.
